South West Institute of Technology

Welcome to SWIoT – Where career ambition meets advanced technical training.

The South West has an outstanding reputation in the digital, engineering, and manufacturing sectors, and North Devon in particular finds itself home to global players in the pharmaceutical, agri-tech, aeronautical, marine, FMCG, filtration, and electronics-based manufacturing and engineering industries.

With such a prevalence of advanced technical industries, combined with the exodus of qualified professionals experienced by rural regions and a nationwide skills shortage for key science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) sectors, the need was clear, and the South West Institute of Technology (SWIoT) was created.

Put simply, SWIoT is designed to provide innovative technical education, and deliver a skilled local workforce, economic growth, and prosperity to the South West.

Created in September 2019, SWIoT is a unique collaboration between a number of partner organisations, including the University of Exeter, University of Plymouth, Bridgwater & Taunton College, City College Plymouth, Exeter College, Truro & Penwith College, and Petroc, each investing in the development of state-of-the-art facilities for training in technical subjects to create Britain’s next generation of highly-skilled technicians and engineers. SWIoT will operate as a virtual college, specialising in technical training and development in the South West.

So, whether you’re a dedicated and ambitious learner, looking for professional technical training that leads to a nationally-recognised qualification; or a forward-thinking and dynamic employer who wants to develop, retrain, or upskill your workforce to take your business to new heights; SWIoT is here to meet and exceed your digital, engineering, and manufacturing training needs.
